The SAS Survival Handbook is the Special Air Service's complete course in being prepared for any type of emergency. John 'Lofty' Wiseman presents real strategies for surviving in any type of situation, from accidents and escape procedures, including chemical and nuclear to successfully adapting to various climates (polar, tropical, desert), to identifying edible plants and creating fire. The book is extremely practical and is illustrated throughout with easy-to-understand line art and diagrams.

This is definitely a great book to have just in case you ever need to survive in an SHTF situation. Very well written and provides guidance for almost any situation where survival skills would be needed. I learned a lot just from paging through it. A definite must for any bug out bag or car glove box.
Great but not perfectReviewed by Tn John, 2010-02-25
This is a great but not perfect survival guide. Read Mr. Driscoll's review I did and checked out his statements and found Mr Driscoll to be correct. However this is one of the best all around guides I have read. So far I have 10 wilderness survival guides in my library but this is about the best. If you can't attend a school with instructors to teach you, get some specialized instruction books. I would suggest at the very least this book and "Primitive Wilderness Living & Survival Skills" by John & Geri McPherson, "The Trappers Bible" by Dale Martin, "The everything Knots Book" by Randy Penn, and The Illustrated Guide To "Edible Wild Plants" by Department Of The Army and if you can some of the Ron Hood videos (he's real good). But this is a very good book you should read. I know a lot of the skills taught here you have read before, some you have not but you will gain more insight if you read different ways of explaining skills by different people. Just remember there is no animal as the perfect survival guide that will teach you everything you need to know but this book is a very good start, just keep going and don't stop with just this one book. Best wishes to all.
Love this!Reviewed by Anne, 2010-02-08
I bought this for my 11 year old son along with other outdoor, adventure books. This is his favorite. Not sure I fully understand, but he has a bucket of water and a fish-catching contraption that he made based on this book. We need to get him to a river to try it out. Great book!

If you are onto excursions or like to travel a lot around the world, the information in this book can be very important to keep you alive even in situations no one would like to be.
